Meridienne is a Philadelphia-based design and fabrication studio creating lighting, furniture, and objects that explore the emotional resonance of mechanical form. Drawing from the visual language of pre- and postwar industry, transportation design, and a measure of postmodern humor, the work reinterprets familiar industrial materials and processes through a sculptural, domestic lens.
Founded by designer and illustrator Kirk Fromm, Meridienne emerged from a lifelong fascination with cars, bicycles, boats, and aircraft – not just as machines, but as vehicles for aspiration, adventure, and personal identity. Prior to founding the studio, Fromm studied interior architecture and spent more than three decades working as a conceptual designer and illustrator within the architecture industry, an experience that continues to shape the narrative and material sensibility behind the pieces.
Working primarily in metal, the studio also incorporates softer materials like wood, leather, and fabric, evoking the tactile richness of vintage marine craftsmanship and classic automotive interiors. Existing between collectible design and functional art, Meridienne creates pieces intended to feel both familiar and slightly untethered in time—as though discovered in a Paris flea market circa 1970. Balancing industrial process with human touch, the studio creates objects with personality, presence, and utility—pieces designed to become lasting parts of the spaces and routines around them.
